Brass Veerabadhra shield used in shaivite rituals

This piece is a depiction of one of the forms of Shiva, the moustached warrior Vīrabhadra, also known as Veerabadhra, Veerabathira, Veerabathiran who is a fierce and fearsome form of Shiva. In his right hands he holds a sword and an arrow. In his left hands he holds a bow and with the other he leans on his shield. To the right at the base of the shield is Daksha, with his ram’s head, on the left is Veerabadhra’s consort Bhadrakali. At the top apex of the arched prabhavil is a protective yalis face above the raised head of a cobra.
